About the Role

The Claims Representative, Appraiser is responsible for preparing physical damage estimates on vehicles where a claim has been submitted for first or third party damages in the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland Counties, and Northern NJ. This role requires providing a high level of customer service while utilizing measures to control severities.

Responsibilities

  • Survey damages, prepare estimates, and negotiate settlements on partial and total losses within established authority level.
  • Issue drafts to the appropriate parties.
  • Document the claim file as necessary.
  • Complete re-inspections and supplements in a timely manner and in accordance with all guidelines.
  • Comply with all production standards and estimating guidelines.
  • Ensure that service, expense control, and public relations are maintained at all times.
  • Complete reports on investigative assignments.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Participate in catastrophic claim handling when requested, which may include overnight travel for extended periods of time.
  • Adhere to privacy guidelines and NJ Fair Claims Practices and/or New York Regulation 64.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of NY auto claims appraisal experience.
  • Valid Driver’s license and favorable driving record.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather and drive long distances.
  • Comfortable completing inspections of damaged vehicles, including crawling under and around vehicles, and inspecting vehicles in tight quarters at body shops and salvage yards.
  • Willingness to participate in catastrophe claim handling, which may include traveling to other locations, extended and weekend hours, and up to a three-week stay away from home.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Organized and able to work independently with limited supervision.

Body shop experience is a plus but not required.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $62,000 to $84,000 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including employee knowledge and experience, role scope, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
