Claims Operations Specialist

About the role

You will support the end-to-end claims intake process by managing intake channels, claim set-up, and responsive assistance. This hybrid position combines advanced administrative expertise with operational support for the claims team. You will work closely with the Claims Care phone team and claims examiners to support ongoing processes and provide knowledgeable backup. The role assists with mail claims processing and provides support to the Claims Care phone team during periods of high volume or as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Establish new claims in the existing claims system from all incoming sources, determine required documentation, and initiate correspondence to obtain missing requirements.
• Process web claims submissions across platforms, including set-up, required determination, communication, and processing payments.
• Monitor and triage incoming claims emails and queues, ensuring timely routing, response, and follow-up.
• Match incoming claims requirements to pending claims, document receipts, and prepare claim files.
• Preview death claims, follow up with funeral homes regarding any outstanding requirements or uncashed drafts.
• Resolve routine inquiries and escalate complex issues as needed.
• Maintain organized and compliant claims files, ensuring all documents meet standards.
• Provide additional support to the Claims department and Claims Care Phone team during periods of high call volume.

Requirements

• Equivalent to high school graduation required; an associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• 1+ years of experience working in a claims-focused phone environment, handling inbound calls and providing direct customer support.
• Experience in insurance administration or operations preferred.
• Completion of LOMA courses in Principles and Operations within two years of employment.
