Role and Responsibilities
- Engage with our TPA partners to ensure proper claims handling and resolution as well as superior service delivery.
- Maintaining a diary and performing oversight on claims with anticipated exposure meeting or exceeding the TPA’s delegated authority level.
- Collaborating with and directing the TPA claims team on individual case strategies, counsel and vendor selection, plans of action, and disposition.
- Reviewing and granting reserve and settlement authority requests on claims above the TPA’s delegated authority level.
- Reviewing and approving all TPA coverage analyses and position letters, either independently or with the assistance of coverage counsel.
- Completing program level TPA claim audits or arranging these audits with an external auditor.
- Attending mediations and trials, either via teleconference or in person.
- Maintaining overall responsibility for the claims portion of designated programs.
- Partner and communicate with all internal Obsidian disciplines on claim and program issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years’ experience handling and managing multi-line commercial claims, including general liability, auto liability, professional liability, construction, property, and cyber.
- Experience working with TPA’s and performing claims oversight & supervision.
- Familiarity with traditional Program business and the role of General Agents.
- Ability to oversee and/or handle high exposure claims.
- Experience with claims in multiple jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with policy forms, endorsements, and coverage interpretations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior organizational, analytical, time management, client-service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work equally well both autonomously and within a team environment.
- Comfort level with preparing and completing presentations, both internally as well as to current and prospective partners.
- Ability to travel (10%).
- Proficiency with MS Office suite of applications.
