Claims Director, Casualty (Remote, US)
Position Overview
The Openly Claims Director, Auto Casualty is responsible for designing, implementing, and leading the new Auto Casualty claims handling process. This role also leads the Property Liability and Litigation team.
Strategic Responsibility
You will optimize the entire Auto Casualty claims handling process by integrating specialized vendors, leveraging advanced technology, developing innovative and legally sound process flows, ensuring regulatory compliance, and establishing a top-tier internal desk adjustment team.
Core Responsibilities
Partner strategically with the Claims Director, Auto Physical Damage on cross-functional initiatives and shared vendor relationships to optimize overall claims operations.
Designing the foundational structure and processes for all Auto and/or Casualty claims.
Contributing to the development of the operational strategy and vision for the Openly Claims organization.
Managing claim outcomes to meet operational metric targets, including loss dollars, loss adjustment expenses, claim average cycle time, customer experience, employee experience, and regulatory compliance.
Collaborating with Vendor Management and Technology Teams to evaluate and select vendor partners.
Establishing and implementing segmentation rules for claim routing to optimize the use of technology, personnel, and vendors.
Partnering with the Data Strategy team to design key operational metrics and automated reporting for enhanced transparency and data-driven decision-making.
Providing policy and claims feedback in collaboration with the Insurance Product team.
Representing Openly at claims industry events and forums.
Cultivate a strong culture of teamwork and shared accountability within the Casualty claims team and across the broader organization, championing effective communication and problem-solving with all internal and external partners.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements.
Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in property & casualty insurance claims roles, with a proven ascent in responsibility.
At least 6 years of experience leading and optimizing Auto Casualty claims teams, with a demonstrated track record of achieving strong operational results.
Strong technical knowledge and demonstrated expertise in managing Complex Bodily Injury claims, including advanced claim handling strategies, negotiation tactics, and litigation management.
Proven ability to design, staff, and lead high-performing claims teams.
Demonstrated passion for leadership, coaching, and talent development.
Proven track record of strategic planning and budget management.
Excellent interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and addressing complex business challenges.
Results-oriented with strong decision-making capabilities.
Compensation & Benefits
The budgeted salary range for this position is $154,800 - $183,825 USD. Actual compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience and skills.
