Claims Consultant - Architects and Engineers

The Hartford Global Financial Lines Errors and Omissions Claims Group currently has an open claim professional position in our Architects & Engineers (A&E) group. As an A&E claims professional, you will handle a caseload of claims-made, commercial A&E claims from inception to final disposition. Experience handling litigated A&E matters through resolution and managing defense counsel is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations and analyze and evaluate the information learned
• Appropriately and accurately analyze and determine coverage, liability, and damages based on the facts of each claim
• Communicate written positions to insureds and other required parties on coverage, liability, damages, and other issues
• Set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitor regularly for adjustments
• Present cases to management for expense or indemnity reserve authority above established levels
• Develop and implement resolution strategies through negotiations to achieve high-quality outcomes
• Proactively manage litigation and counsel, including litigation planning, execution, budgeting, and bill review
• Understand and analyze potential extra-contractual liability as needed
• Attend trials and mediations as necessary
• Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects, training, and product development initiatives
• Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, and industry trends
• Provide support and collaborate with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments
• Address inquiries from agents and policyholders, providing superior customer service
• Provide key training and marketing support to underwriters
• Conduct contract reviews for insureds and brokers
• Attend and present at various industry events each year on risk management and claims topics
• Coordinate a quarterly risk management newsletter
• Organize and present webinars and in-house risk management seminars for high-profile insureds

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree preferred; bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum of 5 years handling litigated coverage and liability of professional liability cases and/or claims required; experience with architects & engineers cases strongly desired
• Risk management contract reviews a plus
• Disciplined, results-oriented, and focused on bottom-line results
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong strategic thinking and execution skills
• Advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues
• Superior time management, task prioritization, and desk management skills
• Ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others
• Ability to work with moderate supervision and employ a “team player” attitude

Schedule

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Naperville, IL; Alpharetta, GA) will work in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

As a condition of employment, you must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims in the states supported by your office. Continued employment is contingent upon passing the licensing exam(s) within 30 business days from the completion of the licensing training.

For full-time, occasional, part-time, or remote positions: high-speed broadband internet service is required (DSL, wireless, MiFi, hotspots, fiber without a modem, and satellite are not recommended or supported). The internet provider-supplied modem/router/gateway must be hardwired to the Hartford-issued computer with an ethernet cable. Minimum upload/download speeds of 5Mbps/30Mbps are required.

Pay

The annualized base pay range for this role is $122,400 - $183,600. Actual base pay may vary based on factors including performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies. The base pay is one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package, which may also include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
