Claims Attorney Sr (P3) - Coverage Attorney

About the role

The Claims Attorney Sr. (P3) (Coverage) serves as a key legal advisor supporting casualty claims, with a primary focus on coverage analysis and strategy. This role partners closely with claims professionals and leadership to evaluate policy coverage, assess legal risk, and guide resolution strategies on high-exposure and litigated matters.

Responsibilities

• Provides expert interpretation of insurance policies, develops defensible coverage positions, and influences outcomes through early identification of issues and proactive legal counsel.
• Oversees outside counsel on coverage-related litigation, ensuring alignment with company strategy, efficient case management, and effective cost control.
• Controls litigation costs and claim severity.
• Responds to subpoenas, court orders and other legal requests in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
• May attend pertinent trials but is not attorney of record.
• May provide oversight and supervision to outside counsel on claims-related litigation.

Requirements

• Typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training.
• Must have Claims Coverage experience.
• Must have passed the Bar exam.

Pay

Base Pay Range: $110,000 - $151,250

Schedule

This role operates on a hybrid basis for employees within 50 miles of Bloomington, IL, and is fully remote for those outside of that range.
