About the role
A Civilian Paramedic responds to medical incidents and provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) and medical transportation services to patients. They are responsible for providing advanced emergency medical services both on-scene and enroute to the hospital, managing medical equipment, administering medications, performing advanced airway procedures, and documenting patient care.
Responsibilities
- Respond to medical incidents and provide advanced emergency medical services
- Manage medical equipment and administer medications
- Perform advanced airway procedures and document patient care
- Communicate findings to hospitals and interact with patients
- Set up, operate, and monitor medical equipment
- Inventory, request, and stock drugs and EMS supplies
- Participate in EMS-related programs and training
- Act as lead/functional supervisor for EMT on medical scenes
- Work under medical direction from various sources
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Arizona Paramedic Certification OR National Registry Paramedic Certification at time of application AND valid Arizona Paramedic Certification by hire or promotion date
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications are required by application date
- Class D Arizona Driver’s License by hire or promotion date
- Maintain all required certifications throughout employment and complete continuing education hours
- Pass alcohol, drug, and controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures
Qualifications
- One year of full-time Paramedic or EMT experience
- Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) certification
- Bilingual in Spanish
