Civil Superintendent
Job Summary
Provides overall field leadership, coordination, and execution oversight for all civil construction activities associated with the project including enabling works, earthworks, underground utilities, foundations, piling, temporary facilities, drainage, and site works. Responsible for safety, quality, productivity, construction sequencing, subcontractor coordination, and interface management across multiple simultaneous work fronts.
Major Responsibilities
Leadership / Supervision (Discipline Supervision of supervisors supporting 50 craft or Responsible for Area/Facility)
Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate supervisors, and others, as assigned. (Direct Hire)
Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by each craft. (Direct Hire)
Planning / Productivity
Determines workforce requirements. Coordinates established area operational plans.
Tools, Materials & Equipment
Oversees tool and equipment usage on the site. Manages the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the craft professionals have the tools they require to be productive.
Safety & Quality
Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.
Technical
Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents. Manages engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.
Requirements
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills
Large EPC industrial or power project construction experience
Strong knowledge of civil construction means and methods
Earthworks, grading, and underground utility installation experience
Heavy foundation and piling construction experience
Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and direct hire crews
Strong understanding of construction sequencing and workface planning
Experience with temporary facilities and site establishment
Knowledge of SWPPP, erosion control, and dewatering systems
Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills
Ability to drive safety, quality, and productivity performance
Experience coordinating with engineering, logistics, and commissioning teams
Familiarity with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and turnover planning preferred
