Civil Structural Engineering Resource Leader
Job Summary
Structural Engineering Leader is responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers, ensuring timely, within-budget, and high-quality delivery of civil/structural deliverables.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review and approve all civil/structural deliverables.
- Validate professional services and construction estimates at project onset and track changes throughout.
- Perform engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and estimates.
- Develop professional service estimates in line with department standards.
- Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies as needed.
- Establish design criteria, incorporate client requirements, estimate/scope basis, and design basis meeting applicable standards and codes.
- Ensure permitting requirements are established and communicated to the project team.
- Plan and organize work, maintain project control, track performance budget, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
- Delegate work to engineers based on their technical skills.
- Consult with design leaders from other disciplines, follow up for support, and ensure efficient progress and quality.
- Produce detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
- Develop project designs with efficiency in mind, ensuring ease of construction and meeting client expectations.
- Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy, compliance with codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practice.
- Produce construction specifications.
- Monitor drawings for conformance to design calculations and specifications.
- Assist drafting group in resolving layout and detailing problems.
- Ensure sufficient sketches and details are provided for engineering drawings.
- Prepare bid packages for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
- Participate in training programs, continuous education, and professional development of staff.
Ideal Background
- Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university, with structural coursework.
- Registration: Professional Engineering registration highly preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering and management.
- Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of design standards and codes, civil/structural materials, specification development, good design practices, other disciplines deliverable development, schedule constraints, and information requirements.
- Skills: Ability to accurately estimate tasks, develop cost estimates, schedules, budgets, and installation documents, communicate effectively, present professionally, lead teams, use Microsoft Office, and manage projects efficiently.
