About the role
The Civil Structural Engineer serves as the civil engineer for electric substation design projects for high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. He/she will apply NESC, ASCE, and other applicable codes and standards in the engineering design and will independently produce steel structure designs and concrete foundation designs associated with rigid and strain bus configurations, foundation layouts, oil containment designs, metal grate platform designs, and fire wall designs.
Responsibilities
- Develops Steel Structure Designs and Fabrication Drawings
- Develops Concrete Foundation Designs and Detail Drawings
- Develops Oil Containment Designs and Detail Drawings
- Develops Metal Grate Platform Designs and Detail Drawings
- Develops Fire Wall Designs and Detail Drawings
- Performs Structural Analysis
- Documents for Design Calculations
- Develops Foundation Layout Plans
- Develops Associated Bill of Materials
- Aids in General Arrangement Development
- Develops Cable Trough and Conduit Plans and Details
- Develops Grounding Plans and Details
- Develops Site Plan Development
- Reviews Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management
- Works with Other Internal and External Project Stakeholders
- Supports Continuous Improvement Efforts
- Communicates Client Interests and Drivers
- Serves as a Technical Specialist for System Protection and Communication
- Advise Management on Maximizing ROI
- Attends Client Technical Review Meetings
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a recognized accredited program
- Minimum of 4 years related work experience in the field of high voltage civil substation design
- PE License in at least 1 US state
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation
- Proficient in 3D Modeling (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation V8i)
- Proficient in the use of PLSCAD, LPILE, STAAD, or similar programs
- Good knowledge of the industry and technology trends specific to substations
- Strong familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code
