Civil Structural Engineer (Forensic Engineering)

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

• Determine the origin and cause, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, roof damage, construction defects and building system failures including envelope, roof, wall and glazing.
• Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards.
• Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients.
• Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation.
• Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups.
• Support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings.
• Accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required, master's degree highly preferred in Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of post-academic civil / structural engineer experience.
• P. E. (Professional Engineer) registration S.E. registration is a plus.
• Must possess strong writing skills.
• Public speaking experience a plus.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work at various heights on structures.
• Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces.

• Ability to drive in all conditions.
• Ability to fly on airplanes.
• Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site.
• Learn a new industry and obtain required certifications.
