Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Determine the origin and cause, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, roof damage, construction defects and building system failures including envelope, roof, wall and glazing.
- Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards.
- Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients.
- Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation.
- Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups.
- Support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings.
- Accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required, master's degree highly preferred in Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of post-academic civil / structural engineer experience.
- P. E. (Professional Engineer) registration S.E. registration is a plus.
- Must possess strong writing skills.
- Public speaking experience a plus.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs.
- Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites.
- Ability to work at various heights on structures.
- Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to drive in all conditions.
- Ability to fly on airplanes.
- Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site.
- Learn a new industry and obtain required certifications.
