This is a mid-level career technical role responsible for supporting the development and execution of civil/structural design deliverables. It applies technical drafting and design skills to produce accurate and compliant documentation using industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) tools. Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include formal supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance to junior designers under the direction of senior staff.

Qualifications and Experience

This role requires a high school diploma with vocational or technical training in drafting technology, or equivalent working knowledge/experience. An associate degree in drafting/design technology is preferred. The incumbent should have a minimum of 6 years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience) with vo-tech training in basic drafting technology, or 5 years of related experience with a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares moderately-difficult to difficult engineering and construction drawings for a complete phase of a project, utilizing manual and computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.
• Performs discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concepts and mathematical formulas.
• Reviews manufacturers'/or fabricators' prints for conformance with contract specifications.
• Performs routine checking and/or verification tasks.
• Supports field assignments as required.

Language Skills

The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals is required. The incumbent should also be able to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume is required. The incumbent should also be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Physical Demands

Occasional field trips to operating plants or construction sites may be required, which demands normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

Work Environment

The normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasional visits or temporary assignments to work in an operating plant or at a construction site may be required, which may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
