About the role

The Investigator will conduct accurate and detailed investigations related to civil rights complaints involving discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and the provision of County services. This is a full-time, contractual assignment starting on June 18, 2026, and ending in December 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct general research regarding jurisdiction and parties to complaints.
  • Identify potential witnesses and victims of discriminatory conduct.
  • Secure and document physical evidence.
  • Prepare investigation reports that are well-written, objective, organized, logical, and error-free.
  • Maintain organized records of investigations, including interview notes, relevant documents, and other material collected.
  • Testify at hearings, as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, business, law, or a related field.
  • Four (4) or more years of public or private sector professional experience in an investigatory capacity directly related to the resolution of complaints.
  • Experience conducting civil rights investigations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, word processing skills, and proofreading skills.
  • The ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • A valid non-commercial driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local non-discrimination laws, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient use of technology, including Google Suite, Zoom, and approved AI applications.
  • Ability to operate calmly and effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Conflict resolution and/or mediation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with time-sensitive deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
