Responsibilities
- Project & Client Management
- Manage, administer, and plan multiple engineering projects to ensure on-time and within-budget performance.
- Represent the firm in all client communications from project initiation through completion and post-project marketing.
- Meet with clients post-award to document expectations, goals, and objectives.
- Understand client organizations, establish communication protocols, and define approval procedures.
- Develop scope of work, task lists, budgets, and milestone schedules, including client/agency reviews and internal QA/QC processes.
- Prepare and negotiate client agreements in coordination with Office Management and the Agreements team.
- Ensure contracts are executed prior to project kick-off.
- Develop and update Project Management Plans, ensuring team alignment on client expectations, scope, budget, and schedule.
- Conduct project kick-off meetings with accounting and project teams to communicate plans.
- Schedule and coordinate project meetings, documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Provide daily direction and monitoring of project teams, resolving scope, design, and other challenges while adhering to JDE standards and QA/QC processes.
- Proactively advise the Office Manager of significant challenges or deviations from procedures.
- Coordinate engineering, construction engineering, GIS, CAD, survey, and other project needs, scheduling team members and equipment.
- Communicate with technical experts and Practice Leaders for project-specific guidance and performance monitoring.
- Monitor financial performance, maintain understanding of agreement terms, and prepare/submit change orders.
- Follow Accounts Receivable Guidelines for invoicing, collections, and proactive client communication.
- Review and approve sub-consultant invoices prior to submission for payment.
- Ensure accurate and coordinated electronic and written project documentation.
- Monitor client responsibilities and communicate deviations.
- Provide updated progress reports and act as client liaison to outside agencies, vendors, and contractors.
- Oversee construction administration activities, including site meetings and inspections.
- Participate in weekly project review meetings using earned value management methodology.
- Coordinate Post Project Review Process with clients and internally within 30 days of final deliverables.
- Ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
- Attend team and project coordination meetings.
- Nurture existing client relationships and enforce standards for superior client management and professional service delivery.
- Promote collaboration between Project Management, Engineering, Offices, and other Departments.
- Support consistent and superior technical excellence and resource sharing across the firm.
- Marketing & Business Development
- Assist in devising and implementing marketing strategies to strengthen the firm’s reputation as a thought leader.
- Proactively seek cross-selling opportunities to expand existing client relationships.
- Lead new business development activities, including client meetings, proposal development, presentations, and negotiations.
- Coordinate project team selection with Office Managers, technical experts, and Practice Leaders.
- Pursue strategic potential clients in conjunction with Senior Leadership and Regional Directors.
- Participate in securing funding with local, state, and federal agencies as required.
- Engage in go/no-go decisions, proposal reviews, and agreement execution per JDE policies.
- Contribute to civic and community leadership and engagement plans for the office.
- Personnel Management
- Develop, mentor, and lead Assistant Project Managers and Engineering Team Members.
- Assign work, estimate personnel needs, and participate in career path planning and performance evaluations.
- Support Office and alma mater recruitment efforts.
- Other
- Maintain and expand professional capabilities through industry associations, continuing education, certifications, writing, and speaking opportunities.
- Follow all company, OSHA, federal, state, and local health and safety guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Office Manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of engineering experience or comparable experience.
- Utah Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Proven track record of fostering existing client relationships.

Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR (Motor Vehicle Record).
- Occasional air travel required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
- Work in an office or mobile office environment with frequent visits to client and project sites, including exposure to various weather conditions.
- Use of special safety precautions and/or equipment may be required.
- Attend client meetings at night and occasionally travel overnight for out-of-town projects or to other offices.
