Civil Project Engineer | Sioux Falls, SD

About the role

The Civil Project Engineer will lead low- to moderate-complexity civil site design projects and support larger, high-complexity project delivery alongside senior staff. Key responsibilities include leading design efforts, developing detailed designs, performing permit applications, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for civil site design projects (commercial, residential, and industrial)
  • Develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools per code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Complete and oversee permit applications with the project team, client, and reviewing jurisdictions
  • Perform surface modeling, watershed modeling, storm sewer design, and sanitary sewer design
  • Support projects through bidding and construction administration
  • Partner with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong working relationships
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Document design decisions and client direction while monitoring percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems, propose solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers/consultants on practical approaches
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance by interpreting state/local design criteria and applying them to project needs
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions aligned with project goals
  • Identify potential project issues and seek guidance from the Project Manager as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required, 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the Civil Engineering and Construction Industry
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills in the civil engineering field
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Ability to lead teams with others that utilize industry standard software that assists with civil engineering analysis and design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
