About the role

Mott MacDonald’s water/wastewater team is actively growing its water practice in New York. In this position, you will manage multiple water/wastewater projects simultaneously, offering excellent potential for professional growth and collaboration with our water resources team and other practices, including dams, geotechnical, energy, and transportation.

The qualified candidate must have strong leadership and project management experience, along with direct business development experience, including generating project leads, building client relationships, and winning work. This role requires direct client interaction, managing and mentoring Mott MacDonald professionals, and overseeing design teams comprising technical disciplines and specialty sub-consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide administrative and technical management over multiple water resources, water treatment, or wastewater projects.
  • Establish and periodically review time-and-hour budgets, ensuring projects meet those budgets.
  • Periodically review project schedules and progress.
  • Outline complex problems and methods of approach for other engineers.
  • Supervise or coordinate several varied assignments simultaneously.
  • Identify potential business development opportunities with existing clients and take an active or lead role in the proposal process.
  • Maintain client relationships post-project to secure future work.
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments, including planning and conducting complete projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering/scientific principles in broad areas of assignment.
  • Calculate project costs and determine feasibility based on collected data.
  • Perform detailed design for municipal engineering projects, including storm sewer systems, sanitary sewer systems, water systems, and pump stations.
  • Prepare and develop engineering drawings, specifications, and other project deliverables.
  • Develop engineering project cost estimates.
  • Serve as the lead project engineer during construction, reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and design clarifications.
  • Assist and lead permitting activities with local and state regulatory agencies.
  • Attend project meetings, prepare agendas, and draft meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with various disciplines in executing projects.
  • Work closely with project managers and senior design engineers in reviewing and coordinating designs.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (required).
  • 8+ years of experience in water engineering.
  • Experience working with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection and/or other city agencies (preferred).
  • Experience in both design and management of water-related projects.
  • Mentoring experience with less experienced engineers.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of New York (required).
  • Self-starter with the ability to lead and manage people and projects.
  • Commercial approach to delivering projects.
  • Skilled in technical writing.

Pay

The expected salary for this position is $131,000 - $160,000.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a hybrid work model. Most of your time will be spent collaborating in-office, with a minimum expectation of three days per week in the office. Flexibility is balanced with connection to meet client, team, and personal commitments.
