Civil/Mechanical Design Engineer - Vogtle 1&2

About the Role

This position provides technical leadership and guidance in the area of mechanical components/systems and civil evaluations at Plant Vogtle 1 and 2, part of the Southern Nuclear Operating Company’s fleet. Responsibilities include preparation and coordination of design changes and calculations, identifying industry best practices, developing and maintaining fleet procedures, setting strategic vision, participating in industry working groups, modifying drawings and calculations, conducting field walkdowns, providing construction support, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for mechanical components/systems and civil evaluations.
• Prepare and coordinate design changes and calculations.
• Identify industry best practices and develop/maintain fleet procedures.
• Set strategic vision and participate in industry working groups.
• Modify drawings and calculations.
• Conduct field walkdowns and provide construction support.
• Troubleshoot mechanical/civil component issues impacting plant output, operation, or safety.
• Address operational, maintenance, and reliability issues for mechanical components.
• Develop long-range plans and strategies for equipment maintenance or replacement.
• Communicate technical issues and drive problem resolution across various management levels.
• Work effectively across diverse groups to drive standard technical solutions.
• Interface with vendors and service suppliers on procurement, repair plans, and equipment performance.
• Ensure awareness of emerging issues and technological developments in civil/mechanical components.
• Assist in the development of specifications.
• Initiate, coordinate, and oversee multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain unescorted access to all Southern Nuclear Company (SNC) facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, or a Professional Engineer license (Engineering Technology degrees will not be accepted). Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred; Electrical, Nuclear, Chemical, and Civil Engineering degrees considered based on experience.
• Strong technical background in mechanical/civil engineering and working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to nuclear power generating facilities.
• Three or more years of experience with mechanical/civil components is preferred; five or more years is strongly preferred.
