Civil Litigation Associate

About the role

We are seeking a Civil Litigation Associate to join a growing litigation practice focused on representing homeowners in disputes involving residential contractors, builders, and developers. The practice handles matters involving construction defects, contract disputes, project delays, mechanic's liens, payment disputes, warranty claims, and other construction-related litigation.

This opportunity is well suited for an ambitious litigator who enjoys advocating for clients, taking ownership of cases, and developing meaningful courtroom and trial experience. You will be given substantial responsibility while receiving guidance, mentorship, and support from experienced attorneys to help you continue developing as a well-rounded litigator and trial advocate.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client consultations and develop litigation strategies.
• Manage cases from intake through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery.
• Conduct written discovery and manage discovery processes.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Prepare witnesses and work with experts and consultants.
• Argue motions and appear at hearings.
• Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations.
• Prepare matters for trial, arbitration, and evidentiary hearings.
• Participate in first- and second-chair trial opportunities based on experience.
• Maintain regular communication with clients and provide updates throughout their matters.
• Work collaboratively with attorneys and other members of the legal team.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Virginia (Maryland and/or D.C. admission is a plus).
• 3 - 5 years of civil litigation experience.
• Demonstrated experience with depositions, hearings, and motion practice.
• Experience independently managing litigation matters and caseloads.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Excellent client communication and relationship-management skills.
• Strong organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
• A writing sample will be required.
