About the role

The Civil Heavy Equipment Operator position will operate heavy equipment/machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects. Key responsibilities include operating excavators, loaders, backhoes, bull dozers, graders, and other machinery. Duties also involve digging trenches, installing or repairing sanitary sewer, storm drain, or water lines, and maintaining legal excavations according to OSHA and other regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of equipment including backhoes, excavators, loaders, skid steers.
  • Ensure utilities and other buried lines are located before digging.
  • Maintain grade with the assistance of others using lasers, levels, transits, string lines, or other methods.
  • Inspect equipment and general work area prior to starting any job.
  • Load trucks with materials, rock, and dirt with various types of equipment.
  • Understand soil types and their effects on the work being performed and the hazards they present.
  • Ensure safe and secure storage of equipment.
  • Assist ground crew in other activities as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience operating excavators.
  • Experience and knowledge of construction means and methods.
  • Knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction specifications, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Valid Drivers License and any required licenses/certifications for operation of Heavy Equipment.

  • Sick (up to 56 hours annually, accrued at 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked) – never expires, but caps at 56 hours.

Pay

$26.00 - $40.00/hr, Negotiable – depending on experience. Paid Weekly on Fridays (Mon thru Sun Work Week) w/ paystubs emailed.

Schedule

In-person, on-site position. Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
