Responsibilities
- Independently perform and oversee site grading and earthwork operations
- Mass excavation and cut/fill balancing
- Subgrade preparation and proof rolling
- Road construction and maintenance
- Access road installation
- Crane path construction
- Laydown yard preparation
- Equipment pad construction
- Inverter pad construction
- Transformer pad construction
- O&M building pad preparation
- Stormwater management installation
- Erosion and sediment control (SWPPP) implementation and maintenance
- Drainage structure installation
- Culvert installation
- Ditch construction and grading
- Fine grading and finish grading
- Aggregate placement and compaction
- Soil stabilization
- GPS machine control operations and verification
- Survey coordination and grade verification
- Quantity tracking and production reporting
- Daily production planning and crew scheduling
- Heavy equipment coordination
- Utility crossing coordination
- Civil punch list completion
- Final grading and site restoration
- Survey and As-Built documentation
- Train and mentor others on all aspects of civil construction, including grading, drainage, SWPPP compliance, equipment operations, production tracking, and quality standards
- Lead multiple civil crews while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
- Coordinate daily activities with Project Management, Superintendents, Survey, QA/QC, and subcontractors
- Ensure work is completed according to project schedules, plans, and specifications
- Monitor production rates and proactively resolve field issues impacting schedule or productivity
- Conduct daily safety meetings, pre-task planning, and job hazard analyses
- Maintain accurate production reports, quantity tracking, and daily field documentation
- Ensure all work complies with project quality standards and environmental requirements
- Coordinate equipment utilization and manpower to maximize efficiency
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Good driving record
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Procore experience required
- Experience with quantity tracking, production reporting, and quantity claiming
- Advanced understanding of GPS machine control and survey systems for dozers, graders, excavators, and other heavy equipment
- Strong knowledge of grading, drainage, SWPPP, and civil construction best practices
- Proven leadership experience managing crews and coordinating field operations
- Ability to effectively communicate with project management, survey personnel, subcontractors, and field teams
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on safety, productivity, quality control, and schedule adherence
- Able to lift 50+ pounds and maneuver materials into place
- Able to perform repetitive physical activities including stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, standing, and walking for extended periods
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow, as safety permits
- Able to work in environments with loud noise, dust, debris, heavy equipment, and other construction-related hazards
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Civil Foreman or Civil General Foreman on utility-scale solar, renewable energy, or heavy civil construction projects
- Experience managing grading, drainage, SWPPP, road construction, and earthwork operations
- Knowledge of production planning, quantity tracking, and project scheduling
- Experience utilizing GPS machine control technology and coordinating with survey teams
- Strong understanding of OSHA safety requirements and environmental compliance
- Additional civil construction, heavy equipment, or supervisory certifications
