Civil Engineering Lead (Civil Works)

About the Role

HDR is seeking a Civil Engineering Lead for its Dam, Levee, and Civil Works program in Southern California. This strategic role involves leading and managing multi-discipline analysis, project management, business development, and mentoring a team of civil engineers and designers. The position supports project delivery through high-quality services and technological development, focusing on dams, spillways, outlet works, stormwater management systems, and other critical structures subject to hydraulic and earthquake forces.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multi-discipline analysis within HDR’s dam, levee, and civil works program.
• Provide project management, business development, and mentoring to the team.
• Conduct civil design analysis and technical project execution, including project planning, scheduling, and preparation of final design analysis.
• Support project delivery activities by ensuring high-quality services and technological development.
• Coordinate with multiple disciplines, including site land development, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and hydraulic engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Master of Science or higher preferred).
• 7+ years of related experience (15+ years preferred in civil engineering projects involving site land development, water management, structural, geotechnical, and hydraulic disciplines).
• Minimum 2 years of project management experience.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position.
• Experience with MS Office, MS Project (Access experience a plus), Bentley MicroStation, InRoads, Open Roads, AutoCAD Civil3D, and other civil engineering software.
• Willingness to obtain California PE registration (multiple state/province registrations encouraged).

Skills

• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Effective communication and coordination abilities across multiple disciplines.
• Construction experience to identify potential claims (a plus).
• Familiarity with State Dam Safety, US Bureau of Reclamation, US Army Corps of Engineers, and/or FERC regulated projects and standards (a plus).

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position in California is $140,000 - $215,000, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
