Civil Engineering Intern - Land Development, Summer 2027
About the role
Bohler’s office in West Hartford, CT is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) eager to learn, grow, and contribute to real-world site design projects. As a Summer 2027 intern, you will gain insight into the daily operations of a civil engineering firm and understand the complete site development process, from concept to construction.
Responsibilities
- Experience the day-to-day operations of a civil engineering and site design firm
- Learn the stages of the land development and site design process
- Enhance your technical skills with hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to design:
- Concept plans
- Grading plans
- Stormwater management plans
- Utility system plans
- Sediment control plans
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to coordinate and drive projects forward
- Research zoning ordinances and coordinate with local jurisdictions
- Visit sites to observe field conditions and see the engineering process in action
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to design and process improvements

What You’ll Bring
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems Engineering, or a related field
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- A self-starter attitude with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred; training provided if not yet proficient)
- Curiosity and motivation to learn within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Interest in civil site design, land development, and problem-solving

Pay Transparency
Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience. The base pay range for this role is $24 – $28 per hour.
Work Authorization
Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States. Bohler does not sponsor petition-based employment visas that require formal USCIS filings, such as H-1B or PERM-based green cards. Bohler may provide employer support letters for TN (Canadian or Mexican citizens) or E-3 (Australian citizens) when business needs permit.
