Civil Engineering Designer

About the role

The Land Development Designer at GCW is responsible for designing land development and public works projects. This role involves preparing construction drawings, grading plans, street improvements, and utilities. The Designer works closely with Project Managers and CAD Technicians.

Responsibilities

• Designs and prepares improvement plans and calculations for specific projects such as single family residential, multi-family, commercial, industrial, hospitality, and institutional engineering projects under the direction of a Project Manager.
• Aids in research studies and information gathering in preparation for specific designs.
• Prepares engineering drawings, study plans, and tentative maps.
• Maintains organized files relating to designs, plans, and projects progression, which facilitates easy access to project information for the Project Manager and other team members as required.
• Collaborates with and delegates appropriate tasks to technical staff, internal departments, and sub-consultants for project components.
• Aids in the creation of exhibits for clients.
• Under supervision, interfaces with agencies (i.e., processing, research and plan checks).
• Attends weekly progress meetings to generate weekly progress reports, to be reviewed and approved by the Project Manager.
• Maintains a high level of quality control.

Requirements

• Must be proficient in Civil 3D.
• Working knowledge of Land Desktop.
• Proficient in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and abide by the company’s CAD procedures for layering and file management.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and a technical school degree/certificate in a related discipline is required.
• Three (3) years of working experience within a Civil Engineering Firm using AutoCAD Civil 3D software is required.

Skills

• Strong AutoCAD Civil 3D skills are necessary.
