About the role

Serve as a structural engineering staff specialist performing engineering quality assurance (QA) evaluations for MILCON, Civil Works, Regional Planning and Environmental Center (RPEC), and Support for Others programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering quality assurance evaluations for MILCON, Civil Works, RPEC, and Support for Others programs.
  • Evaluate the quality of structural engineering products and processes.
  • Evaluate and respond to questions raised as a result of technical engineering review comments.
  • Promote new structural engineering methods and construction techniques; identify and resolve structural engineering issues for project deficiencies associated with Civil Works, RPEC, Support for Others, and MILCON projects.
  • Improve the structural engineering quality of District designs by drafting SWD criteria to reflect results of site investigations and claims.
  • Participate in Field Review Group Conferences, User Group Meetings, Corps-wide technical conferences, meetings with districts, other MSCs, HQUSACE, TCXs, and others to prioritize the Civil Works, RPEC, and MILCON structural engineering programs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must possess a Professional Certification/License for an Engineer prior to assignment/placement and retain for duration of employment.

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:

  • Preparing and reviewing design calculations, drawings, specifications, construction submittals, shop drawings and/or technical reports to ensure they comply with established engineering criteria and standards.
  • Resolving structural engineering problems for projects such as dams, levees, bridges, or vertical construction.
  • Coordinating the structural engineering aspects of a project with multi-disciplinary teams throughout the design and construction phases.

Education: Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent. The curriculum must include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics/hydraulics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, nature and properties of materials, or comparable engineering science.
