About the role

Timmons Group is seeking Civil Project Engineers at various levels to join our Land Development groups in our Richmond, VA office. We have opportunities in our Residential, Commercial, and Public Land Development groups. Projects range from multi-family and mixed-use developments, market-rate apartment communities, large-scale industrial and distribution projects, residential neighborhood design, to public land development projects like schools, jails, fire stations, and parks. We assist clients with zoning entitlements, civil site plan approvals, and construction administration support.

Project engineers typically work in a team of 2-3 design engineers and a project manager to bring our client’s vision to life. The complexity and fast-paced nature of our clients' needs creates a dynamic environment that fosters teamwork, diverse training opportunities, and builds a sense of ownership in the successful outcome of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilize computers to solve problems
  • Prepare specifications and materials through research and equipment catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of project-specific items
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets
  • Perform research and write objective summary reports used in project completion or inspection
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff
  • Communicate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field is required
  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification required
  • 2–8 years of professional experience in Land Development civil engineering preferred; entry-level candidates will be considered
  • Experience with preparation of civil engineering site plans including site layout, utilities, grading & drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management is a plus
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future

Pay

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $77,000–$110,000. This position is eligible for straight-time overtime. Offers are based on job-related factors such as internal equity, experience, skills, education, credentials, and role complexity.
