About the role
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) with 3+ years of civil engineering experience (primarily public works and water/wastewater) to join our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Aid in planning, hydraulic/hydrologic analyses, and detailed design for water distribution, sewer collection, pump stations, lift stations, water/wastewater treatment, and related public works projects
- Create CAD/Civil 3D (or MicroStation) plans, profiles, details, and quantity takeoffs for pipeline, pump station, and site work
- Develop technical specifications, cost estimates, permit applications, and design calculations
- Assist with transportation/roadway projects as assigned (drainage design, utility coordination, plan preparation)
- Participate in field investigations, data collection, and construction observation/support
- Review contractor submittals and respond to Request for Information (RFI)s during construction
- Contribute to technical reports, project proposals, and client communications
- Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and project team members to meet schedule and budget goals
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- EIT certification (or able to obtain within 6 months of hire)
- 3+ years of relevant engineering experience, primarily in public works and water/wastewater projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation; strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with hydraulic/hydrologic and water/wastewater modeling tools (or willingness to learn)
- Familiarity with municipal permitting processes, standards, and agency coordination
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Some construction administration or field inspection experience
- Experience with GIS and mapping for utilities
- Exposure to regulatory drivers (NPDES, state/local water quality rules)
- Experience with cost estimating and bid/contract documents
