Civil Engineer I Full Time

Full-time position with the Engineering Division of the Village of Skokie, IL.

About the role

Direct the preparation of design, plans, and specifications for Village improvement projects, including street resurfacing, alley and bike-path paving, sewer and water-main rehabilitation, stormwater management, and lead water-service replacement.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate projects with outside agencies.
• Perform engineering computations for topographic, cross-section, and other engineering tasks.
• Conduct field inspections, visit sites to assess scope, and recommend solutions.
• Prepare, analyze, and review engineering reports; write summary reports.
• Create preliminary sketches to guide survey work or technicians.
• Work directly with contractors to discuss construction issues and resolve problems under supervision.
• Record data, prepare records, and maintain divisional files.
• Assist other departments by reviewing and processing back-up information for reports.
• Respond to citizen requests and provide recommendations.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Ability to obtain Professional Engineer license in Illinois desirable.
• Previous municipal engineering experience a plus.
• Working knowledge of construction methods and standards, land-survey nomenclature, engineering maps, records, drafting symbols, and construction materials.
• Demonstrated skill in using engineering and survey instruments, making computations, and preparing plans and sketches.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
• Ability to follow all Village safety rules and regulations.

Pay

Annual salary range: $81,354.88 – $106,427.53. Starting salary range: $81,354.88 – $89,693.76 (dependent on qualifications).
