About the Role

As a Highway Construction Management Forensic Expert, you will investigate highway construction incidents, analyze site procedures, apply your comprehensive knowledge of standards and practices, write clear, scientifically sound reports, and provide expert testimony. You will delve into the "why" behind incidents, critically assessing decision-making, operational procedures, and the standard of care. This role offers you a chance to:

Approximately 20% of your time will involve travel for inspections; the remainder will be focused on analysis and report drafting, working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate highway construction incidents.
  • Analyze highway construction site procedures and apply knowledge of industry standards and practices.
  • Write clear, scientifically sound reports.
  • Provide expert testimony.
  • Assess decision-making, operational procedures, and the standard of care in highway construction contexts.

Requirements

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in highway construction, including DOT experience, covering areas such as:
    • Excavation, paving, drainage, utilities, bridges, and other structures.
    • Traffic control and safety in highway work zones.
    • Construction management, inspection, and safety.
    • Means & methods, contracts, scheduling, estimating, and subcontractor management.
    • Quality control, fieldwork analyses, and incident/claims investigations.
  • Thorough working knowledge of highway construction site procedures.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, objective evidence for non-technical audiences.
  • Clean background screen and a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive and travel approximately 20% of the time for inspections.

  • Highway/roadway design and/or maintenance.
  • Materials testing.
  • Residential or commercial land development.
  • Stormwater systems design.
  • Parking lot design/construction.
  • Vertical construction.
  • Crash investigation/reconstruction.

Locations

Miami Lakes/Palm Beach Gardens, FL & Atlanta, GA (hybrid).
