About the role
The Civil Engineer plays a key role in delivering engineering projects from initial planning through construction. This position is responsible for supporting the design and analysis of grading, drainage, and utility systems, while applying knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, and land development processes to develop practical, sustainable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop budget estimates, manage costs, and track schedules for assigned tasks and projects.
- Analyze project data to evaluate feasibility and support decision-making.
- Prepare and review engineering reports, specifications, plans, estimates, designs, and installation schedules.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including utilities, stakeholders, and community relations representatives.
- Review and develop improvement plans for grading, drainage, street, sewer, and water projects, including supporting calculations and documentation.
- Utilize hydrology and hydraulic modeling to design effective solutions for stormwater, sewer, and potable water systems.
- Contribute to the preparation of engineering proposals, including defining scope, schedule, and budget.
- Present technical information and project updates to clients and external organizations.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts.
- Provide guidance and support in training and mentoring junior staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferable, as are certificates in storm water management or QSP/QSD.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in municipal type infrastructure projects. Valid certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in CA preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite tools and PDF software such as Bluebeam Revu.
- Experience in public works and land development engineering. Understanding of the land development entitlement process. Familiarity with the land development lifecycle from initial application through construction.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Civil 3D and MicroStation. Experience with gravity flow and pressure flow modeling tools.
- Working knowledge of hydrology and hydraulic modeling principles. Ability to prepare, interpret, and review engineering plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
- Experience supporting proposal development, including scope, schedule, and budget inputs.
- Strong communication skills, including experience presenting to clients or external groups. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience supporting training or mentoring of staff is a plus.
