Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Civil Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit in Juneau, Alaska. In this role, you will provide essential civil engineering services for projects across the 17th Coast Guard District area of responsibility. Your work will include technical reviews, project scope development, field investigations, planning, design, cost estimating, and facility condition assessments. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure projects in a dynamic maritime environment, supporting national security and operational readiness.
Responsibilities
- Provide civil engineering services for the CEU Juneau in support of work associated with projects on the Advanced Acquisition Plan and other inserted projects
- Provide civil engineering troubleshooting and consultations, offering technical and project advice to CEU Juneau Project Managers
- Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of professional studies, reports, and analysis
- Collaborate with managers, engineers, architects, construction project managers, legal staff, contract specialists, and contractor personnel to resolve complex engineering problems and disputes
- Provide technical reviews and review comments for project designs, including Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build efforts
- Develop technical responses for A/E and contractor requests for information and coordinate contract modifications with the CEU Juneau Project Manager
- Conduct facility condition assessments and evaluations throughout District 17
- Travel as needed, including potential overnight trips to operational and construction sites within District 17 in Alaska
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5+) years of work experience in civil, electrical, mechanical, or structural engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; a Master’s degree and ten (10+) years of experience are preferred
- Demonstrated mastery of civil engineering concepts, principles, and practices
- Experience with National Codes and Mechanical Engineering disciplines including HVAC, plumbing, fuel systems, tanks, pumps, piping, and minor structural work
- Strong AutoCAD drafting skills and experience with Autodesk Civil3D
- Experience in design work for high seismic, high-wind, and coastal maritime climate conditions
- Ability to review technical packages for Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build, and performance specifications
- US citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Desired Skills
- Mechanical or electrical engineering background with at least five (5+) years of facility repair and restoration experience
- Experience with facility condition assessments and evaluations in maritime environments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to adapt to field work conditions, including exposure to adverse weather and operational sites
