Civil Engineer

About the role

Solas O’Brien is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer to join their multi-disciplinary design firm in Evansville, IN. The qualified applicant will have the opportunity to engage in all phases of a project from inception to completion of construction. This involvement is intended to grow individuals and nurture design talents.

Responsibilities

• Communicate design recommendations to clients, project team, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary.
• Independently evaluate options based on client needs and desires, first cost, and life cycle cost.
• Design and detail new systems needed, ensuring accuracy and coordination, and adherence to quality assurance measures.
• Provide timely services meeting client and project schedule requirements.
• Maintain contact with existing clients to ensure they think of the firm when services are needed.
• Pursue projects for new and existing clients by meeting with them, conducting presentations, and writing proposals.
• Achieve technical assessments of potential project opportunities to aid in project go/no-go decisions.
• Lead and oversee the work of other engineers and designers as a Project Design Lead or Project Manager to develop project deliverables.
• Perform civil design calculations following office standards.
• Stay updated on new design and analysis technologies and building materials through continuing education activities.

Requirements

• A minimum of a BS in Civil Engineering and 6+ years of experience in the design of industrial wastewater systems.
• Preferred experience with overall site design of industrial, municipal, and commercial sites.
• Working knowledge of Civil analysis and design software, specifically Civil 3D.
• A Professional Engineering license is preferred.
• Working knowledge of wastewater treatment design, modeling, and simulation software.

Physical and Ergonomic Requirements

• Lifting/carrying: Carrying light loads related to field measurement equipment and equipment cases weighing 15 lbs. or less.
• Dexterity: Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at industrial plant and construction sites at any time of the year.
• Walking/Climbing: Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
• Visual Acuity: Ability to discern single line and 3-dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafted.
• Hearing: Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
• Physical exertion: Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plants and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
• Breathing: Ability to work while wearing a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.
