About the role
Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) has an immediate opening for a Civil Engineer at the Palmyra, Missouri location. Northeast Power is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa.
Responsibilities
- Determine line routing and design transmission lines
- Plan and design new transmission and substation facilities, modifications and upgrades
- Provide engineering support for 69 kV to 345 kV substation equipment, including specifications and bid/proposal evaluations
- Design foundations for large equipment and steel structures
- Support substation layout, below-grade design, structural evaluations and SPCC spill plans
- Apply for and obtain environmental permits for transmission and substation facilities
- Survey new or revised substation and transmission facilities
- Aid in long- and short-range planning, construction work plans and system improvement studies
- Review system outages and recommend improvements to support reliability
- Provide engineering support to Operations for construction, maintenance and reliability issues
- Cook up with engineering consultants, design engineers, vendors, utilities, equipment manufacturers and member-distribution cooperatives
- Aid in annual budget development and keep the Engineering Manager informed of progress, plans and project needs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field
- Licensed Professional Engineer with the ability to become registered in both Missouri and Iowa
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in the electric utility industry, preferably with a generation and transmission cooperative or engineering consultant
- Working knowledge of 69 kV and 161 kV substation and transmission facilities
- Knowledge of foundations, structural loading, environmental permitting and surveying
- Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE and other applicable design codes
- Ability to understand and apply advanced math, technical terms, standards and engineering principles
- Strong organizational, time management, communication and customer service skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently and present information effectively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Valid Class E or equivalent driver’s license and ability to maintain required licensing and insurability
