About the role
SeamonWhiteside is in search of an ambitious and talented professional to serve as a Civil Designer in our growing Mount Pleasant, SC office.
Responsibilities
- Review and comment on shop drawings and materials submittals on projects
- Review as-built of civil engineering systems provided by Surveyor
- Demonstrate consistent achievement of SW+ billable goals
- Consistently meet task deadlines related to projects
- Cookordination with outside consultants involved in the project (Surveyors, Traffic Consultants, Architects, Geotechnical Engineers, MEP Engineers, Wetland Consultants, etc.)
- Efficiently prepare CAD base sheet drawings from drawing files provided by Surveyor
- Perform QA/QC reviews on work and better understand civil and landscape drawings
- Prepare or direct civil plan sheets sets for construction drawings with emphasis of proper plan presentation
- Effectively address redline comments provided by agencies and senior engineering staff
- Perform complete quantity take-offs and cost estimates of designs
- Aid Engineers and Project Managers in the analysis of proposed and current projects
- Prepare civil design drawings under the direction of senior engineering staff, with minimal guidance of production effort
- Perform hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations and engineering reports (drainage report, water calc reports, and project narratives)
- Prepare comment response letter for agency resubmittals
- Attend pre-construction meetings and site visits with senior CA personnel
- Work to expand experience in witnessing installation, testing and inspections of site infrastructure systems (sewer/water system testing, proof rolls, SWPP inspections, etc.)
- Review and comment on shop drawings and materials submittals on projects
- Perform construction observations & field reports, with ability to tackle more complex projects
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university
- Experience: 1 - 5 years’ experience and Engineering in Training (EIT) preferred
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of drafting using AutoCAD
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, email software, and calendar applications
- Understanding of project scope and assigned tasks
- Understanding of project scheduling, project budgets, and project deliverables
- Demonstrate ability to work with others in a team setting
- Understanding of SW+ file management and project organization
- Recognize important municipal and government agency officials as stakeholders in a project
- Thorough knowledge of necessary permitting processes for projects across multiple different jurisdictions
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple project tasks
- Ability to work independently to effectively manage time and work in a team environment
- Full understanding of specific SW+ drafting standards
- Working knowledge of design software (ICPR, WaterCAD, Civil 3D, SEDCAD, HEC-RAS, Hydraflow Express, Storm Sewers, Microstation, Geopak, InRoads, IDEAL model)
- Working knowledge of agency regulations and design standards for specific projects across multiple jurisdictions
- Ability to prepare preliminary plats, site plans, SWPP plans, grading/drainage plans, water/sewer plans, profiles (road/water/sewer/drainage), and construction details
- Understanding of civil project specifications and the production thereof
