Job Duties

  • Direct and monitor all aspects of multiple civil engineering projects while mentoring Design Engineers, Project Engineers, and/or Lead Engineers.
  • Oversee and manage a team responsible for the design and permitting of a wide variety of civil engineering projects including roadway rehabilitation and construction, water main/sanitary sewer systems, stormwater management, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, parks/public spaces, and site development.
  • Lead site design efforts including grading, drainage, utility layout, access and circulation, and coordination with local zoning and land development requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and provide technical guidance on site layout plans, erosion control plans, and stormwater management reports for private and public development projects.
  • Develop, review, and comment on design documents, plans, and technical specifications to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subconsultants, and internal teams, including coordination across multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Develop proposals, scopes of work, and project budgets; ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget while meeting client expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise the preparation, quality control, and approval of all client proposals, contracts, and deliverables.
  • Track project financial performance by monitoring actual versus planned expenditures; review and approve billing invoices and prepare progress reports.
  • Apply value engineering, optimization strategies, and sound engineering judgment throughout the design process to improve project outcomes.
  • Lead project meetings, presentations, and client discussions.
  • Support business development efforts, including maintaining client relationships and identifying new opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in transportation, infrastructure, municipal, and/or site civil design with progressively increasing technical and project management responsibilities
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or actively working toward licensure
  • Strong experience in site development design, including grading, drainage, utilities, and permitting processes
  • Familiarity with local agencies and regulations including Illinois municipalities, IDOT, and Will/Cook/DuPage County requirements
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills with a strong client-focused mindset
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and Geopak, or comparable platforms such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or OpenRoads Designer
