Civil Construction Project Manager
About the role
This role oversees civil construction projects with a focus on excavation, site work, cast-in-place concrete, piping, and process equipment installation. The Civil Project Manager provides full contract management from project award through closeout, ensuring work finishes safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall contract management for construction projects, from pre-construction through project closeout.
- Direct and supervise superintendents, subcontractors, and other construction personnel to plan, coordinate, and execute work safely, on time, and within budget.
- As the primary point of contact with the client, manage the construction contract and maintain strong client relationships.
- Use drawings and specifications to develop comprehensive project scopes for purchasing materials and selecting subcontractors.
- Document and manage all project correspondence, including submittals, requests for information (RFIs), legal notices, and other communication with owners, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Ensure that all work complies with company quality standards and that the quality of work performed meets or exceeds expectations.
- Maintain jobsite safety, ensure adherence to safety requirements, and address any field issues that arise.
- Compile cost estimates for changed conditions and negotiate change orders with owners and engineers.
- Review and evaluate change order pricing from subcontractors to ensure fairness and accuracy.
- Develop detailed project CPM schedules and update them weekly to forecast required subcontracted workforce, internal labor, heavy equipment, and rentals.
- Pre-plan and determine the means, methods, materials, and tools required to complete work tasks efficiently and safely.
- Manage self-performed work, including planning, staffing, and productivity tracking.
- Support construction cost estimating efforts and contribute to bidding strategies for hard dollar bid municipal projects.
- Ensure compliance with unit price contracts and oversee billing for quantities in accordance with contract requirements.
- Promote a culture of accountability where project teams are empowered to run their projects effectively and maintain the company’s reputation with customers.
Essential Skills
- 5–10 years of experience in contract management for civil construction, including exposure to excavation, utilities, and concrete work.
- 3–5 years of experience leading a team in a construction or project management environment.
- Demonstrated experience in excavation, site work, cast-in-place concrete, piping, and process equipment installation.
- Proven ability to manage subcontractors, vendors, and internal employees to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Able to read and interpret plans, specifications, and submittals accurately.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements and the ability to perform in-house jobsite safety audits.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, and Outlook, as well as other basic computer software used in construction management.
- Experience with RFIs, project coordination, change order management, and overall project management processes.
- Ability to travel within approximately a one-hour radius of the Albany, NY area.
- Strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills to manage contracts, change orders, and client relationships effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, business, or a related field.
- Exposure to construction projects involving water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, heavy concrete rehabilitation, and complex municipal infrastructure.
- Familiarity with unit price contracts and billing for quantities.
- Experience working on hard dollar bid municipal projects.
- Experience in construction cost estimating and change order negotiation.
- Experience managing self-performed work, including planning, scheduling, and productivity oversight.
- Civil project management experience with a general contractor in commercial, municipal, and site development projects.
- Comfort working on a diverse portfolio of projects, including K–12, civil, municipal, commercial, private, and public work.

This is a Permanent position based out of Albany, NY.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $47.00 - $57.00/hr.
