Civil Construction Estimator
About the role
The Civil Construction Estimator provides complex construction cost estimates for complete site construction projects. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, they are responsible for fostering and maintaining relationships with contractors, developers, vendors, and subcontractors, locating and prioritizing bidding opportunities, developing and maintaining cost structures for bidding, performing quantity take-offs, preparing and costing bids, tracking bid opportunities from location through award, negotiating and reviewing contracts, scheduling project work activities with field supervisors and management teams, and facilitating work efficiency to maintain profit goals.
Responsibilities
- Foster and maintain relationships with contractors, developers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Locate, procure, and prioritize bidding opportunities.
- Develop and maintain cost structures for bidding.
- Quantity take-off.
- Bid preparation and costing.
- Bid opportunity tracking from location through award.
- Contract negotiation and review.
- Schedule project work activity with field supervisors and management team.
- Facilitate work efficiency to maintain profit goals.
- Perform other tasks as necessary.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in building construction is preferred, or a comparable combination of education and experience in a construction company.
Work Experience/Qualifications
- Effective organizational, management, and writing skills.
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid software.
- Experience with Bluebeam software.
- Knowledge in VDOT specifications.
- Knowledge in construction practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
