Description of duties

  • attending one 1-hour lecture per week
  • leading one 1-hour tutorial per week
  • attending weekly course planning meetings with teaching team, and benchmarking meetings where necessary
  • grading up to four non-closely supervised written assignments (two outlines and two reports) and one final team oral presentation
  • grading up to 25 non-CIV student reports for a partner course, CIV220
  • collaborating with colleagues in partner courses
  • consulting with students (individually and in groups) to help them develop as writers and presenters
  • must have the ability to adapt to different communication instruction activities and move online if required

Minimum Qualifications

  • include at least a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Communication, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies) with strong written and oral communication skills
  • demonstrated commitment to teaching communication
  • demonstrated ability to work as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • include a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above)
  • TESL or other training/certification in second-language instruction at the university level
  • familiarity with engineering communication practices
  • experience as an instructor in first year foundation course, Engineering Strategies and Practice
  • experience in Civil Engineering education or practice is also highly desirable
