Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction.
  • Assist the special education teacher in maintaining discipline.
  • Support the teacher in instructional activities.
  • Escort students between rooms.
  • Toileting students may be required.
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch.
  • Aid in classroom assignments and copying materials.
  • Help prepare paperwork and file materials.
  • Alert teachers to any issues observed.
  • May support toileting of students.

Qualification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
  • Two years of college credit OR an associate's (or higher) degree.
  • Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge and understanding of instructional assistance.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use job-related software applications.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Physical Demands

  • Sit, talk, and hear.
  • Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Work Environment

  • The noise level is typical of a school environment with school children.
  • The employee works throughout the school building, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus.
  • The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well-being of students in their charge.
