Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction.
- Assist the special education teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Support the teacher in instructional activities.
- Escort students between rooms.
- Toileting students may be required.
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Aid in classroom assignments and copying materials.
- Help prepare paperwork and file materials.
- Alert teachers to any issues observed.
- May support toileting of students.
Qualification Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit OR an associate's (or higher) degree.
- Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge and understanding of instructional assistance.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use job-related software applications.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Physical Demands
- Sit, talk, and hear.
- Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Work Environment
- The noise level is typical of a school environment with school children.
- The employee works throughout the school building, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus.
- The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well-being of students in their charge.
