About the role

Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction. Reports to Special Education Teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities.
  • Escort students from room to room.
  • Toileting students is sometimes required.
  • Involves work with both special education and regular students.
  • Aid in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch.
  • Aid in classroom assignments.
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes.
  • Aid teaching staff in filing material and preparing paperwork.
  • Alert teachers to problems observed.
  • Might require supporting with toileting of students.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
  • Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree.
  • Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment covering content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing, and understanding of instructional methods.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly sit, talk, and hear.
  • Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

  • Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds with assistance.

Salary

Ranges from $22.12 to $25.18 per hour, based on contractual agreement BPS Contracts.

Work Hours

6.5 hours per day, from 7:45 AM to 2:15 PM.
