About the role
CITY WIDE PARAEDUCATOR CURRENTLY LOCATED AT BCHS, EXCEL PROGRAM
Responsibilities
- Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Toileting students is required.
- Involves work with both special education and regular students.
- Aid in the implementation of IEP.
- Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
- Assist students with classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Aid teaching staff in the preparation of paperwork.
- Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree.
- Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment assessing content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
- Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Ability to push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
