ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction.
  • Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities.
  • Escort students from room to room.
  • Toileting students is required.
  • Involves work with both special education and regular students.
  • Aid in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch.
  • Aid in classroom assignments.
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes.
  • Aid teaching staff in filing material and preparing paperwork.
  • Alert teachers to problems observed.
  • QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
    • Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree.
    • Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment assessing content knowledge in mathematics, reading, and writing, and understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to write simple correspondence.
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
    • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
    • Basic knowledge and experience with job-related computer hardware and software applications.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
    • Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
    • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, with occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
    • Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
    • The work environment includes typical classroom noise levels with occasional visits off-campus.
