ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Aid in small group and individual pupil instruction.
- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Toileting students is required.
- Involves work with both special education and regular students.
- Aid in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Aid in classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Aid teaching staff in filing material and preparing paperwork.
- Alert teachers to problems observed.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
- Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree.
- Successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment assessing content knowledge in mathematics, reading, and writing, and understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
- Basic knowledge and experience with job-related computer hardware and software applications.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, with occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
- The work environment includes typical classroom noise levels with occasional visits off-campus.
