About the role

The City of Tallahassee has a Commission-Manager form of government. The City Commission consists of the Mayor and four Commissioners, all of whom are elected at-large and serve staggered four-year terms. The City Commission appoints the City Manager, who serves as the Chief Administrative Officer responsible for implementing policies adopted by the Commission and for the general administration of the City, with support from the Deputy City Manager and three Assistant City Managers.

The City operates with an annual combined operating and capital budget of approximately $1.2 billion for Fiscal Year 2026 and manages assets totaling approximately $5.98 billion, including pension assets. As a full-service city, Tallahassee provides services including public safety (police and fire), Aviation, Transit, and Utilities (electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste), among others. The City employs nearly 4,000 staff and fosters a collaborative, solutions-oriented culture with a strong emphasis on customer service.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Public or Business Administration.
• At least ten (10) years of senior management experience in public administration, preferably with a municipality of similar size and complexity.
• At least six (6) years of required experience must be in a supervisory capacity.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience that incorporates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered.
