City Engineer
About the role
The City Engineer will lead the Public Works Department in shaping the city's infrastructure for the future. The position requires a strong background in engineering, urban infrastructure, and project management, along with experience in supervising diverse teams and managing budgets.
Responsibilities
- Strategic leadership and oversight of complex public infrastructure projects
- Ensuring compliance with City, state, and federal regulations
- Developing and implementing innovative solutions for customers
- Representing the City at local, regional, state, and national levels
- Providing people-centered leadership and operational direction
- Fostering collaboration across the organization and external partners
- Leading department staff and collaborating with the leadership team
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or a related field
- 8 years of extensive engineering experience in areas such as urban design, transportation planning, street and intersection design, traffic engineering, drainage systems, and stormwater management
- 8 years of supervisory experience overseeing diverse work groups
- 8 years of experience developing, monitoring, and regulating budgets and projects
- Experience exercising discretion between "intent" and "rules" to make decisions
- A valid driver's license and Professional Engineer License registered in Colorado or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire
Qualifications
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices related to regional planning, transportation planning, and design
- Understanding of municipal government operations and interdepartmental relationships
- Knowledge of business and organizational management practices, including budgeting, revenue and expenditure oversight, and performance evaluation
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to translate technical information for diverse audiences

Pay
The salary range for this position is $152,600.00 - $221,200.00 per year. The expected hiring range is $152,000 - $204,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
This position is considered essential personnel and may require occasional remote work up to two days per week, subject to business needs and performance expectations.
