About the role

The New York County District Attorney's Office has immediate openings for a City Custodial Assistant in its Facilities Management Unit who is detail oriented, enthusiastic, and takes pride in the work they perform. The Unit is responsible for ensuring all office spaces, restrooms, floors, and grounds are cleaned and maintained to the highest of customer, office, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Sweeps, dust mops and mops office floors, toilets, corridors, lobbies, and other assigned areas.
  • Cleans office floors which includes scrubbing with an electric machine, stripping with a stripping machine, waxing, and polishing floors, and hand scrubbing stairs and stair landings.
  • Vacuums rugs and carpets.
  • Cleans wash basins and other toilet room facilities to include replenishment of bathroom supplies.
  • Washes office walls by hand with a brush or by using an electric machine.
  • Empties office waste baskets and disposes of refuse and recycling.
  • Dusts walls and furniture to include removing and cleaning venetian blinds and shades.
  • Polishes furniture including metal work.
  • Shampoos carpets, chairs, and sofas.
  • Cleans office refrigerators, water coolers, microwaves, air purifiers and fans in accordance with hygienic practices.
  • Cleans and washes sidewalks to include removal of snow.
  • Cleans lower portions of buildings with brush and hose.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

There are no formal educational or experience requirements. However, there are certain medical and physical requirements.

Skills

  • High school diploma.
  • Prior custodial experience.
  • Previous customer centric experience.
  • Prior working knowledge of industry standards related to hygiene as well as waxing and buffing machines.
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the position.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and vendors.
  • Ability to take direction to include understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Additional Information

Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. City Residency is not required for this position. Current office employees must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing to be eligible for a transfer or promotion, and must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
