About The Position

Provides fueling, safety checks, aircraft service and related customer services at the County's general aviation airports. This recruitment will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies which may occur within the next six months.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and one year of full-time aircraft ground servicing and fueling experience.
• Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.
• Applicants not meeting these requirements will not be considered for employment.

Working Conditions

• Work with exposure to high noise and potentially hazardous fuels, lubricants and other materials.
• Work scheduled off-hours shifts.
• Work out of doors in all weather conditions.

Licensing and Certification

• Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of hire.

Medical Examination

• Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
• Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

Residency Requirement

• Permanent employees except for those working in Laughlin, Nevada must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County within 90 days of employment.

Background Investigation

• Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.

Physical Demands

• Mobility to work in a typical shop or field related maintenance setting, including operating typical fueling and servicing equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment;
• Stamina to stand, walk, climb and drive a motor vehicle;
• Strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with proper equipment;
• Vision to read printed materials;
• Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.

Examples of Duties

• Fuels aircraft, using mobile refueling equipment; accurately maintains records of fuel service.
• Provides aircraft services of nitrogen, oxygen, towing, potable water, lavatory, GPU/APU, interior cleaning, windscreen cleaning, etc.
• Responsible for the serviceability, cleanliness, and safety of aircraft fueling and servicing equipment (GSE); makes regular equipment safety inspections, completes the maintenance required and/or reports and documents the need for repair.
• Meets and directs the positioning of the aircraft on the ramp area; ensures that aircraft are tied down, has wheels chocked and is not a hazard to other aircraft on the field.
• Inspects movement and non-movement areas, removes FOD and debris from the runways, taxiways, taxilanes, ramp areas, and other airside locations as necessary.
• Works as a team member, assists and trains other team members as necessary.
• Assists customers and crew with baggage handling and catering; provides information regarding surface transportation, and provides other reasonable services as requested.
• Receives bulk fuel storage shipments, performs fuel density calculations and quality control checks, and completes required documentation.
• Servic portable aviator oxygen breathing bottles.
• Affords assistance to air traffic control in maintaining the security of the movement area.
• Keeps unauthorized personnel away from the movement area including runways, taxiways, taxilanes, and aircraft parking areas.
• Affords assistance in the conduct of the Airport Emergency Plan, removes disabled aircraft from movement area surfaces and immediate vicinity using specialized equipment.
• Maintains accurate records regarding work performed and services provided.
• Affords assistance to public safety personnel as directed in emergency situations.
• Performs spill containment and clean-up of various petroleum products and other liquid hazards.
• Reports suspicious incidents immediately to the proper authorities.
• Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
• Uses standard office equipment in the completion of daily work.
• Operates a variety of motor vehicles during the performance of daily duties and work tasks.

• Health and dental insurance is available at a minimal expense to eligible employees, spouses and dependents.
• The County pays the monthly life insurance premium for eligible employees.

Service Connected Disability Insurance

• Eligible employees are covered by a Workman's Compensation Program in accordance with the provisions of the Nevada Industrial Insurance Act (NRS Chapter 616) and the Nevada Occupational Diseases Act (NRS 617).

Long-Term Disability Insurance

• The County pays a monthly premium toward a long-term disability plan for eligible employees.

Vacation

• Vacation leave accrual is based on length of County employment. Initial accrual is at the rate of 3.08 vacation hours for each biweekly pay period.

Sick Leave

• Eligible employees accrue 3.7 hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period. Employees completing 10 years of service accrue an additional .92 hours of sick leave per biweekly pay period.

Miscellaneous Leaves

• Court leave, military leave, parental leave, leave without pay, blood donor leave, education leave, and County promotional/transfer application examination leave are available (upon approval) for eligible permanent employees.

Retirement

• Full-time employees become a member of the Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System.

Tuition Reimbursement

• Subject to availability of funds, eligible employees may be awarded tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of pre-approved, job related courses.
