Citizenship Teacher

About the Role

We serve adults who have never attended school, those preparing for their GED exams, low-income individuals, migrant community members, and any adult in need of our classes. The role involves supporting students in group classes and providing individual tutoring, primarily staffed by volunteers.

In our 6th year (2021), we served 77 students through various programs:

• Tuesdays and Thursdays late afternoon classes in Reading/Writing, English, and Computer Basics.
• June: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday English classes from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
• August: English classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at the New Horizons location from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
• Special classes in Exercise, Health & Wellness taught by UF/IFAS FNP staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Help students prepare for citizenship by reviewing possible test questions.
• Provide background information on the U.S. to support citizenship preparation.
