Duties
- Provides safe, knowledgeable, individualized nursing care to patients in the operating and recovery room by adhering to quality and safety standards.
- Completes patient assessments and provides care with frequent and careful observation of patients under the influence of anesthesia.
- Anticipates needs for instruments and supplies during surgical procedures and assists the surgeon accordingly.
- Delivers medications in accordance with physician orders and follows procedures for surgery and sterilization.
- Initiates patient care in an effective and responsive manner as each situation requires, considering patient population types ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Documents accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status, reflecting nursing interventions, patient responses, patient teaching, and status at discharge.
- Displays good judgment, makes good decisions, and demonstrates discretion in handling various situations.
- Seeks opportunities for personal growth and performance improvement.
- Serves as a positive role model and clinical resource within the department.
- Maintains knowledge of department operations through participation in department meetings and educational opportunities.
- Utilizes effective, appropriate, and timely communication skills.
- Flexibly assists with other tasks within the department as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Nebraska Registered Nurse licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or willingness to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, or willingness to obtain, preferred but not required.
- Prior operating room experience preferred but not required.
