About the role

The successful candidate will provide educational opportunities where students may fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth in a standard classroom or Montessori setting. They will guide the learning process to help students achieve state standards, maintain a safe and conducive learning environment, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and guides the learning process to help students achieve state standards.
  • Maintains a classroom atmosphere which is safe and conducive to learning.
  • Establishes a professional relationship with all assigned students.
  • Maintains an open line of communication with parents/guardians using district tools like PowerSchool and Cognos.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor with students, parents, coworkers, and administration.
  • Oversees and maintains a positive academic atmosphere conducive to learning and the safety of students.
  • Implements instructional program, and maintains a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful and productive learning experiences.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Affords assistance in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • Maintains effective and efficient records of student performance.
  • Consistently uses technology for the benefit of students' education.
  • Encourages students to think independently and express original ideas.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher in secondary or elementary education from an accredited college or university.
  • Ohio Teacher license appropriate for subject(s) and grade levels taught.

  • Experience working with children in a multi-ethnic situation is preferred.
  • Commitment to helping urban students succeed.
  • Ability to be professional, compassionate, empathetic, and caring dedicated to human growth and development.
  • Willingness to spend the time needed to effectively meet the challenges, objectives, and mission of the CPS district.
  • Accepts responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Serves as a role model for students and colleagues.
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for groups and subject areas.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, and honoring schedules.
  • Seeks to involve parents, corporations, and the community in the education of youth.
  • Participates cooperatively with other teachers and administrators to develop a method of evaluation in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Maintains licensure requirements and professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.

Skills

  • Effective verbal and physical interaction with students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in using technology for educational purposes.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and resources to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Ability to assess and modify instructional resources based on student needs.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Pay

The starting salary for this position is based on the CFT Cincinnati Federation of Teachers (CFT) agreement and is subject to change.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is 191 days per year.
