Choksi Lab - Junior Specialist
We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Specialist to join the Choksi Lab at the University of California, San Francisco. Our laboratory focuses on airway stem cell differentiation, investigating how progenitors in the trachea build and regenerate the specialized cell types that line and protect our airways. We use a combination of stem cell biology, developmental biology, mouse genetics, and single-cell genomics to explore this process across development, regeneration, and chronic respiratory disease.
About the role
This full-time position is equally split between two key roles:
- Management of the laboratory’s mouse colony, including breeding, genotyping, meticulous record-keeping, and coordination with vivarium staff.
- Development and execution of an independent research project on airway stem cell differentiation, under the direct mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI). This provides an opportunity to take ownership of a scientific project, generate and analyze data, contribute to publications, and build organizational skills essential for experimental science.
Responsibilities
- Perform mouse husbandry, tissue harvest, and genotyping.
- Conduct airway epithelial cell culture, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), immunofluorescence, microscopy, molecular biology, and single-cell genomics techniques.
- Assist with general day-to-day lab operations and contribute as an active, positive member of the team.
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, or at least four years of research experience to qualify for the Junior rank.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Prior laboratory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with mouse handling.
- Experience with culturing primary cells.
Commitment
This is a two-year position at minimum, and applicants must be able to commit to this timeframe. The role is ideal for individuals planning to pursue graduate training in research who seek substantive, hands-on lab experience beforehand.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $57,000–$60,700 per year.
