Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center CHMC MAINTENANCE Ogdensburg, NY Maintenance/Trade Full Time, day shift, 7-3 Posted 09/08/2026 Req # 9739 Internal Posting Dates: September 8, 2026 - September 13, 2026 CHMC-Maintenance- HVAC Mechanic II-Full Time-Day Shift--Requisition 9739 Pay Range: $26.37-$34.26* An Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic II carries out the repair, maintenance, and Preventative Maintenance (PM) program on air conditioning, refrigeration and related equipment. Responsible for tracking usage and loss of refrigerants and completion of tracking report. This position is responsible for the timely and satisfactory completion of PM program and work orders, and setting up and maintaining parts, tools, and equipment inventories. Utilizes safe and proper handling and disposal of refrigerants, completing all required documentation of receipt, disposal and loss of refrigerants. Installs and services a variety of air conditioning, refrigeration and related equipment. Follows wire schematics, blueprints, design specifications, and manufacturers’ instructions on the installation and repair of equipment. Checks equipment for proper operation and calibration. Diagnoses and repairs equipment breakdowns. Operates and maintains the PASCO Building Management System. Uses a variety of test equipment. Maintains the hospital buildings in livable and workable condition relative to heat, light, power, air conditioning, and other broad environment factors. Performs a variety of general, mechanical and preventative maintenance as well as inspections, servicing, repair and overhaul of equipment and facilities of the hospital. Work is performed in shop area and hospital facilities interior and exterior and in all weather. Tasks involve standing, using both hands in operations, climbing ladders, stooping, and kneeling, intermittent carrying of equipment. Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials. Must be able to lift and move materials up to 40 lbs. unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Exposure to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, high risk from moving parts, high temperatures from boiler plant operations, and cold winter weather conditions. Work is performed in a hospital environment where there is possible exposure to infectious diseases, and respond to Code Orange Patient Intervention events. Position requires on-call rotation and is subject to 24-hour call-in in the event of an emergency. Rotation into evening shifts, weekend shifts, and on-call shifts are required. Reports To: Director of Facilities Management Education: Required: High school diploma, trade, or vocational program Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Required: EPA section 608 Universal Certification; or EPA section 608 Universal Certification with a minimum of five years of documented experience in the air conditioning and refrigeration field; or ten years of documented experience working on at least four building systems in a large facility to include HVAC, boiler systems, electrical systems, or plumbingNYS DEC Pesticide Applicators licensure within two years of position date BLS certification Crisis Intervention Training Required: TRAINING and EXPERIENCE: A valid driver’s license with a safe driving recordBasic computer knowledgeVisual acuity for reading wiring schematics, blueprints, and specifications are requiredProficient verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers (eg: patient care providers, patients, visitors, management, etc.)Strong organizational skillsAbility to meet expectations and deadlinesThe listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants.
